What is UV mounting? ▾

UV mounting uses ultraviolet light to cure a specially formulated resin around a metallographic sample. Unlike conventional castable systems, where curing starts when two components are combined, a UV resin only reacts when it is exposed to UV light, so no mixing is needed.

What do I need to run the SimpliUV mounting workflow? ▾

Three things work together: the SimpliUV curing system itself, UVKwick UV-curable resin, and UVKups transparent molds that let the UV light reach the resin. Buehler recommends applying a release agent to the mold for every cycle, unless you use the Dekup tool for mold removal.

How long does a SimpliUV curing cycle take? ▾

Cure time is adjustable. A cycle can be as short as a couple of minutes, or slowed to around 40 minutes for heat-sensitive samples, by changing exposure time and light intensity on the touchscreen.

How many samples can the SimpliUV cure at once? ▾

Up to 20 mounted samples can be cured at the same time, depending on the size of the mount or sample and the spacing between them. The LED array gives uniform illumination, so results do not depend on where a sample sits in the drawer.

Are UVKwick mounts hard enough for grinding and polishing? ▾

Yes. UVKwick mounts are around 83 Shore D, which suits samples that need further grinding and polishing before analysis.

What if a mount is tacky or not fully cured? ▾

A tacky surface means the top is still curing. Wipe or rinse it with alcohol, or extend the curing time. A mount that has not fully cured can be placed back in the curing chamber and exposed to UV light again to finish the cure.

Is the SimpliUV safe to use? ▾

The UV light is contained inside the system's drawer. For resin handling and safety precautions, refer to the UVKwick Safety Data Sheet (SDS). An optional fume extractor is also available as an accessory.
